Accommodation and Transport Team Role
As part of the Accommodation & Transport team, you will be the central point of contact for Delegations within the Official Championships Hotels or provide a warm welcome to all Delegates as they arrive at Glasgow Airport.
Volunteer Drivers will support Delegates during their stay in Glasgow, collecting them from the airport and driving around the local area and venues. Volunteer Drivers require a Full UK Drivers licence with 3 penalty points or less and a good knowledge of Glasgow road networks. Good customer service experience and language skills would be an asset to this role.
Accommodation and Transport Team members will have good customer service skills and a friendly, welcoming manner.
Airport Assistants will meet and greet passengers from flights and assist them to await transport.
Key Tasks include:

Airport Assistant Volunteers will be based at Glasgow Airport.
You must be available from 25 February – 28 February 2019 and able to attend one training day prior to this.
Hotel Volunteers will welcome, meet and greet guests and assist with the check-in process. Volunteers will provide transport information and be on hand to answer any queries.
Key Tasks include:
- Customer service
- Updating Notice Boards
- Ensuring transport runs to schedule
- Checking daily arrivals & departures
- Providing information to guests
- Maintaining the look and feel of the hospitality spaces
Key Skills of a Hotel Volunteer:

- Having knowledge of hotel environment and an interest in athletics would be useful
Hotel Volunteers will be based across multiple hotels in Glasgow City Centre.
You must be available from 26 February – 3 March 2019 and able to attend one training day prior to this.
Volunteer Drivers will support delegates getting around Glasgow, picking guests up at Glasgow Airport, driving to competition venue and around local attractions.
Key Tasks include:

- Driving safely around Glasgow
- Ensuring cars are kept in good condition inside and out
Key Skills of a Volunteer Driver:

Volunteer Drivers will be based at Glasgow Hilton and move around the city.
You must be available from 25 February – 4 March 2019 and able to attend one training day prior to this.
Accreditation Volunteer Role
Accreditation Volunteers will be the first point of contact for athletes, officials, media, Glasgow 2019 staff and fellow volunteers as they collect their Championship accreditation cards. Good communication and customer service skills are key for this role.
Accreditation Volunteers will be located at our Main Accreditation Centre, based between three venues: the Emirates Arena; VIP Accreditation Centre; and Team Accreditation Centre.
Accreditation Volunteers will be required for a longer period to help prepare accreditation cards ahead of distribution centres opening.

Accreditation Team Members will be based at the Emirates Arena, and other city centre-based Accreditation Centres.
You must be available from 18 February – 3 March 2019 and able to attend one training day prior to this.
Anti-Doping Chaperone Role
As part of the Anti-Doping team you will ensure that Anti-Doping procedures are strictly followed, completing paperwork and accompanying and observing selected athletes. A keen attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills are required for this role.
You will play a key role in notifying athletes selected for Doping Control and completion of notification paperwork. This may take place in the Team Hotels in or the Competition Venue.
In addition to completing the paperwork, the Anti-Doping Chaperone will be required to accompany and observe the selected athlete until they report to the Sample Collection Station. This may include chaperoning whilst athletes warm-down, receive therapy or treatment, attend press commitments, attend medal ceremonies etc.
Anti-Doping Chaperones will also support the reception desk in the Sample Collection Station, assist in the management of the flow of athletes within the Station, observe the waiting area, observe the media tribune/mixed zone etc.

- Reporting any concerns or issues to your team leader

Clean Athletics Chaperone Role

Competition Volunteers Role
Competition Volunteers will provide key support to athletes and officials to enable the competition to run smoothly.
Competition Volunteers must be physically fit and a good knowledge and interest in athletics would be of benefit. Competition Volunteers will be at the heart of the action and must demonstrate an ability to follow instruction and work as part of a team and show respect for the competition at all times.
There are many roles within the Competition Team, all playing a key role in supporting all aspects of the event.
Athlete Steward Volunteers will escort athletes between training venues and competition areas, liaising with Competition Managers to ensure a smooth transit throughout. Athlete Steward Volunteers will be based at the Emirates Arena.
Key Tasks include:
- Escorting athletes between training venues and competition areas

Key Skills of an Athlete Steward Volunteer:

Information Volunteers will support the Help Desk, providing a point of contact for the Coaches, Team Officials, Athletes, Event and Competition Management. Information Volunteers will be based at the Emirates Arena and official hotels.

Track Team Volunteers will be on the Field of Play supporting athletes, team officials and assisting the Competition Management team. Track Team volunteers will be based at the Emirates Arena, Scotstoun Stadium or Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Key Tasks include:
- Ensuring that all facilities and team areas are serviced to a high standard
- Resolving issues
- Setting up / moving equipment as directed
Key Skills of a Track Team Volunteer:

Training Team Volunteers will support the athletes training and warm up, ensuring that facilities and team areas are serviced to a high standard. Training Team volunteers will be based at the Emirates Arena, Scotstoun Stadium or Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Key Tasks include:
- Ensuring facilities and team areas are maintained to a high standard throughout
- Ensuring the training environment is safe and suitable for athletes to train in
- Resolving issues
- Assist with team enquiries during the training session
Key Skills of a Training Team Volunteer:

Technical Volunteers play a key role in the operations of the competition, supporting data entry, updating athlete data, assisting with the transponder data. Technical volunteers will be based at the Emirates Arena.

- Collecting and recording transponder data

For all of these roles, you must be available from 28 February – 3 March 2019 and able to attend one training day prior to this. Depending on the role allocated, you may be based at the Emirates Arena, one of the official hotels or an external training venue.
Event Presentation Volunteer Role
Event Presentation Volunteers will play a key role in a highly visible aspect of the Championships. There are two roles within the Events Presentation Team, each supporting the successful delivery of the Championships.
Good communication and attention to detail are vital for these roles.
Event Presentation Assistant Volunteers will provide logistical and administrative support to the Event Presentation Director and Event Presentation Manager, as well as providing pre-show Field of Play assistance to the in-field presenter and cameramen.
Event Presentation Assistant Volunteers will be at the heart of the action, supporting the smooth running of the event and getting up-close experience on how the buzz and atmosphere are created at a Championships.
Key Tasks include:
- Assisting the Director and Manager
- Printing and distributing documents
- Pre-show back up for the in-field presenter including VIP collection and delivery to the FOP area
- General administrative duties
Key Skills of an Event Presentation Assistant Volunteer:

Event Presentation Technical Assistant Volunteers will support the Graphics Operator in showing live data on the event screens, playing a key role in ensuring that accurate and up to date information is displayed to the crowd.
Key Tasks include:
- Assisting the Graphics Operator
- Inputting live data to the screens
- Monitoring general competition progress
- Monitoring multi-events scoring
Key Skills of an Event Presentation Technical Assistant Volunteer:
- Experience working in a pressurised and stressful environment
- Knowledge of and interest in athletics
- Data entry / using computers
Event Presentation Volunteers will be based at the Emirates Arena.
You must be available from 28 February – 3 March 2019 and able to attend one training day prior to this.
Hospitality Assistant Role
As part of the Hospitality Team you will be responsible for welcoming and escorting VIP guests to the hospitality areas, helping ensure they have a positive experience at the event.
Great customer service and strong interpersonal skills are required for this role.
Hospitality Volunteers will provide a range of services and support all guests who attend the Championships.
Key Tasks include:
- Supporting the welcome desk / reception area
- Helping transition guests to the Medal Ceremonies events
- Showing guests to their allocated seating
- Support wayfinding for all guests to the hospitality lounge
- Maintaining the look and feel of the guest areas

Information Technology Volunteer Role
Technology will be at the heart of operations throughout the event and skilled volunteers are required to support the smooth running of technology services.
Good communication and knowledge of IT systems are key skills for this role.
Information Technology Volunteers will assist with the deployment / setup / support / decommission of IT equipment in specific areas. You will ensure that Helpdesks, Accreditation Centres, Office and key user working areas are supported and functioning.
Information Technology Volunteers will problem solve basic PC / MAC and printing issues including paper refresh and distribution as required. Information Technology Volunteers will often work independently with limited supervision and be trustworthy.
Key Tasks include:
- Safety (tidy cabling)
- Monitoring and reporting
- Escalation of any issues found
- Solve basic PC use/setup issues
- Work without supervision
- Help users access permitted networks
Key Skills of an Information Technology Volunteer:

Kit Carrier Team Role
Kit Carriers play a vital role in supporting athletes during competition by preparing, collecting, maintaining and safeguarding athlete’s kits during the competition.
Kit Carriers Volunteers must be physically fit and a good knowledge and interest in athletics would be of benefit. Kit Carriers Volunteers will be at the heart of the action and must demonstrate an ability to follow instruction and work as part of a team and show respect for the competition at all times.
Key Tasks include:
- Preparing, collecting, maintaining and safeguarding athlete’s kits during competition sessions
- Post session gather any lost property and return to the Sport Information desk
- Demonstrating respect for the competition
Key Skills of a Kit Carrier Volunteer:
- Reliable and detail orientated
- Ability to follow a detailed schedule
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Good observation skills
Kit Carriers will be based at the Emirates Arena.

Spectator Services Volunteer Role
As part of the Spectator Services Team you will be the first point of contact with spectators, helping to create the buzz and excitement. Volunteers will be required to be on hand to provide information and deal with queries and requests as well as welcoming spectators and directing them to or around the venue.
Great customer service and strong interpersonal skills are required for this role.
Key Tasks include:
- Providing excellent customer service to spectators
- Provide way finding services
- Assist with spectator flow
- Creating a fun, exciting atmosphere for spectators as they arrive / leave the venue

Victory Ceremonies Team Role
There are two roles within the Victory Ceremonies team, each playing a key role in the successful delivery of the Medal Ceremonies.
Volunteers will be required to carry out a high profile role with the responsibility of notifying athletes of the ceremony, ensuring that all requirements such as medals, flowers and gifts are prepared for Medal Ceremonies, often under pressure.
Victory Ceremonies Volunteers will have great interpersonal skills and show attention to detail.
Victory Ceremonies Team Member will be the point of contact for all aspects of the Victory Ceremonies, including Athlete notifications and ceremony preparation.
Key Tasks include:
- Notifying athletes
- Data interpretation – confirmation of results
- Ceremonies preparation including medal trays, VIPs and line ups
Key Skills of a Victory Ceremonies Team Member:

Medal Bearer – Victory Ceremonies Team Member will support the team responsible for the smooth running of the Ceremony itself. This includes medal bearing, athlete escort and VIP escort.

- Ensuring athletes are fully briefed with the details on their ceremony
